"Using the right support system can guide a child to success, but parents need support too in that process..."
For a parent, finding the right support systems for a child with special needs can feel like a full time job, and in some ways it is. Being aware of what resources are available and how to piece together those resources in order to receive the maximum benefit is possibly the biggest challenge a parent must endure. As a parent, you are the most informed person about your child, you know their abilities and challenges better than any other person. Hence, the more you know your child the better you can help your child. Investigating options can feel like dredging through a maze of information, and can become overwhelming at times. As much as we can support our children of special needs, parents too need support. The first step as a parent is to connect with people who understand and share the same concerns; those connections can become valuable resources.
